The Programme

The Young Adult Programme involves the patient in every step of their treatment and empowers them with the knowledge that they play the single most important role in their own recovery.

The specific functions of the Young Adult programme are:
- To promote and increase socialization and peer integration;
- To promote self-esteem, self-awareness and increase self-confidence;
- To provide a daily schedule of activities and group work for patients;
- To liaise with other support organisations and service providers and refer appropriately;
- To work in collaboration with the individual medical team.

An individual timetable of activity is drawn up with the patient to facilitate their specific needs. Referral to one of the illness specific programmes e.g. Anxiety, Depression etc. may also be required and form part of their treatment.

The typical activities offered by the Young Adult Programme are:
- Anti-tension / relaxation
- Art therapy, crafts and pottery
- Computers
- Gym
- Cookery
- Group therapy
- Educational / mental health awareness group
- Occupational therapy group

Clients generally spend three to four weeks on the programme and can enter the programme at any stage of the cycle. Patients can also attend the programme on an out-patient basis.
