Depression Recovery Programme

The Depression Recovery Programme was launched in St. Patrick’s University Hospital in 2003. It is has been designed specifically for people who have experience or are seeking treatment for depression.

Mission

Our mission is to promote healthy living, inspire hope and a vision of recovery and to advocate for people who have an experience of depression. Programme Structure

Aims 

  • Facilitate the participant’s journey towards recovery from depression
  • Prevent relapse
  • Prevent suicide and advocate for people who experience depression.
  • Promote a Recovery Ethos and provide a Therapeutic environment
  • Assess and diagnose mood related problems
  • Reduce isolation and Enhance Peer support and identification
  • Encourage and facilitate therapeutic change
  • Enhance self-awareness and encourage participants to identify and challenge personal factors that maintain the depressive cycle.
  • Encourage participants to take an active role in maintaining their health.
  • Encourage the development of the Compassionate Mind
  • Encourage participants to embrace and sustain recovery.

This programme may be helpful if

  • You have or are currently experiencing depression.
  • You are able and willing to attend group sessions
  • You wish to learn more about Depression and its impact on your life
  • You wish to develop a greater understanding of vicious circles that exist within depressive states
  • You wish to develop a greater understanding of a variety of approaches to the treatment of depression.

There are currently 2 phases to the programme

1. Embracing Recovery

Embracing Recovery is open to people currently being treated within St Patrick’s University Hospital and people who attend on a daily basis.

2. Nurturing Compassion and Resilience

Nurturing Compassion and Resilience is open to those attending one day a week. It consists of fourteen closed psychotherapy workshops. The programme is strongly influenced by Nursing and Health Promotion, Cognitive psychotherapy, Systemic or Family Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and Recovery literature.
